Clinical Training Hub

A connector between schools and clinical training opportunities

About us

What is the Clinical Training Hub?

The purpose of the Hub is to provide information about available health care education and training programs, and sites where students can fulfill their clinical training experiences.

Medical, nursing, physician assistant, and pharmacy schools provide the classroom curricula that provide the foundation for student learning; and health care organizations – hospitals, clinics, and health systems – have the facilities and teachers that can provide the opportunities for students to have their patient care training experiences (clinical sites).

The Hub is a connector between the schools and the sites, and makes available toolkits and guidelines for organizations wanting to create and refine their clinical placement programs.

Who is this for?

Schools will have a more systematic way to identify potential sites and create partnerships with those organizations.

Clinical Sites can share the programs they provide, their curricular requirements, and their student capacities.

Preceptors will be aware of the curricula and compliance requirements of the schools that they may wish to partner with.

Others. Policy makers and the general public will have information about how our healthcare training system works.

The Wisconsin Council on Medical Education and Workforce (WCMEW) convened a work group to study the issues and challenges in placing students at clinical training sites, and to propose solutions. One of the issues identified by the group was the lack of consistency and information-sharing across the system. The group proposed three solutions:

  1. Move toward more uniform and consistent documentation and compliance requirements.

  2. Convene forums to include representatives from schools, programs, and clinical sites to share concerns and best practices.

  3. Create a website that would serve as a central place for schools, programs, and health systems to access information and required processes in the placement process.

This website represents the third solution. The goal is to have as many of those involved in clinical site placement use this site to make the process more transparent, coordinated, and efficient as possible.
